The Humanities – Foreign Languages Department (English, French, and German) develops students’ communicative competence in order to facilitate their access to knowledge through new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), as well as cultural exploration. In doing so, the department aims to prepare students to perform successfully both personally and professionally in the modern world, in accordance with the advances of globalization.
The department is characterized by maintaining an internal organization that promotes students’ academic interest and development, structuring its work within the study plan, the curricular guidelines of the Ministry of National Education (MEN), the pedagogical principles and orientations established by the MEN, the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and the Institutional Educational Project. Likewise, it advances bidirectional training processes between Teachers in Training (MEF) and faculty members from the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN) and the Instituto Pedagógico Nacional (IPN), in keeping with the Institute’s role as a center for innovation and research within the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional.
At present, the department has a team of teachers with degrees in foreign language education who possess a high level of professionalism and leadership, they promote the teaching of English, French, and German as foreign languages. This is reflected in their pedagogical work, which is based on motivating and maintaining students’ interest in communication in a foreign language, providing students with the linguistic, pedagogical, didactic, and technological tools necessary to develop communicative competence, and fostering students’ oral and written comprehension and expression skills.
As a working space for the department, there is the Foreign Languages Room, equipped with computers and internet access, a digital platform that is part of the resources provided with each course’s guidebook, and support materials selected and designed by teachers, which students can access and interact with through the Moodle platform. The department also makes use of the materials available in the Resource Center created for preschool and elementary school during the implementation of the project Oral Communicative Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Special Education, Preschool, First, Second, and Third Grade of Elementary school at the Universidad Pedagògica Nacional with the Promotion of Multiple Intelligences (ECOILE), registered in the Project Bank of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional as well as the materials available in the institutional library for all grade levels.
